Dear Lone Star Boxer, Sharon, Jennifer Crane (who did our home visit and helped us on our dog interview), and the many other volunteers who work behind the scenes to make an adoption happen; Thank you. We adopted Kali (formerly Copper) about four weeks ago. She is adjusting very well, and is really quick to learn the rules, although our dachshund is also training Kali to be her partner in crime. They have discovered the wonders of working together to get to the cat food, open doors, corner the cat, etc. But they also spend a good part of each day snuggled up on their new sheepskin bed. Kali has the perfect "who me?" look. I don't know if every boxer has that face, but it's irresistible. She can walk in with her nose covered in kitty litter, and all I can do is laugh. At least it's all-natural litter! She is still getting used to the cat, although he has laid claim to her, and accepted her as part of his dominion. She just gets really excited when he jumps up out of no where (which he tends to do on purpose to see her go all a-quiver), but she knows she is not supposed to chase him. She is very good with our son; their morning routine is for him to get a cup of milk and watch cartoons while lying on her side. She takes it all in stride and only asks for a cheerio or two in return (although a nice piece of cheese dropped from the highchair isn't bad either). I often find him walking around with a rawhide in his hand and Kali following slowly as if to say: "Umm, excuse me, may I have that back?" Never pushy or aggressive, just very patient and little confused. Kali gets to spend Saturday and Sundays with us at our friend's house. They have three dogs, and a mastiff also comes over to play. The whole pack of them plays and run and chase. She loves meeting the play-friends, and their people, and is always quick to defend Marie (our doxie), when she picks a fight she can't finish. I've included some pictures of their most recent play time. Hopefully we will have more happy pictures to send! Thank you so much for all the time, care and love you put into one great dog. She'll never forget it and neither will we! Robyn, James, and Beau Locklin. |
