Jake is a beautiful, well behaved and sweet brindle male boxer who knows how to sit, shake, heel and lay down. It's hard to believe that someone would just throw him away, but that's precisely what his previous owner did.

Instead of being taken the animal shelter or a vet's office, Jake's previous owner was seen shoving Jake out of his car in a wooded area near a neighborhood. Frightened, Jake would run when anyone would try to approach him. Once he finally got the courage to come to the person who saved and helped nurse him back to health, he'd been living on the streets in that area for nearly two months. He often was seen eating people's trash on trash day to survive.

Although he's on the road to recovery now, Jake was very thin, suffering from diahrrea and an ear infection, with cuts, scrapes and punctures on his body and very lethargic. Tests revealed he had heartworms and intestinal worms. When his mysterious stomach problem would not resolve itself, the vet discovered that Jake had swallowed a rubber object that was damaging his intestines and causing a life-threatening blockage.

Jake recently had surgery and soon will be strong enough to go through heartworm treatment. He's also been lucky enough to find a loving family who can't wait to adopt him. Unfortunately, the $200 adoption fee does not even begin to cover the cost of Jake's treatment, which currently is nearing the $1,000 mark.

If you think you can help cover the cost of Jake's treatment, please let us know. To learn more about sponsoring a boxer in rescue, visit our sponsorship page or call 713.464.1381.
