About dogs in rescue

All dogs are current on all vaccines, including bordetella (for kennel cough) and rabies. Each has been examined by a veterinarian and those not in heartworm treatment receive monthly heartworm preventative.

All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption (if surgery is prevented by a medical condition, timely spay or neuter surgery will be a requirement of the adoption contract and proof of spay or neuter must be provided to Lone Star Boxer Rescue).

We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your interest in boxer rescue.

E-mail your completed adoption applications to info@lonestarboxerrescue.com.

We strive to keep our list of rescue boxers as current as possible. However, since we receive rescue boxers on a regular basis, we may have more available for adoption than those listed below.

Boxers available as of March 18

AJ - I'm new

I'm AJ, and believe me, that doesn't stand for "Average Joe," because I'm anything but average! My brother, Sir Patches, and I are big, strong boys that are about 18 months old. We have natural tails and ears, and we are both super sweet guys. We're staying at a really nice boarding facility, and they are working with us on our house training and leash skills. But we're both really smart, so I figure we'll ace those in no time! I don't like to brag, but I think I'm better on the leash than my brother, although he's catching up really quickly! As happy as we are to be some place safe, each of us is looking for a home we can call our own. We love each other, but we're ready to branch out and do our own thing. We're not in a contest or anything, but I hope you choose me first, which, if you go in alphabetical order, makes perfect sense!

Audrey

I think I was named after Audrey Hepburn, because I am so beautiful and so classy (at least that's what I've been told). (I know my namesake couldn't have been that nasty plant in that crazy movie!) I'm a sweetheart that is about five to six years old, and you will find no other dog who has more love inside of her: dogs, cats, little people, big people - you name it, I love it! I'm one of those special dogs that never has a bad day - or if I do, I would never let you know. I've had a rough life, but so what? It just keeps getting better every day. My wonderful foster mom, who probably has had more fosters than anyone in the world, tells me I am the sweetest dog she has ever had. Now that's something! Want to make my life even happier? All it would take is having my very own forever home.

Ben

I'm Ben, and I am so happy to finally be safe and cared for now! If I look just a little bit rough around the edges, well, it's because I've had a tough life. In spite of being homeless most of my four years, I am a really easy-going guy, and very sweet. I'm also quite good on a leash. I'm very new to LSBR, so I'm going through the usual evaluation: Am I good with other dogs? Cats? How about being house and crate trained? We'll find out soon, so stay tuned! I might do best with an experienced dog owner who would love to help me be the best boxer I can be. In the meantime, I'm basking in a lot of TLC that I have never received before, and I am loving every minute of it!

Blue - Video update

Blue, who is approximately a year and one-half, was discovered one day running full speed through a neighbor's yard, with two little boys in tow yelling, "'Mister, please catch our dog!" After a lesson on keeping their dog on a leash, and a treat for Blue, they were on their way back home. The next time Blue showed up, the little boys were nowhere to be seen, and this time she stuck around. She was so sweet, and friendly, always trying to play with the family's dog. These nice neighbors started feeding her after she had been around for a few days, and then they tried everything they could think of to find Blue's family. No one knew where Blue's family had gone, but it was clear they weren't coming back. Blue wanted so badly to be home again, and one day she showed up dragging her dirty little food bowl behind her. Blue is heartworm positive. She is crate trained, rides well in a car and is working on her house training! This little girl would make a wonderful sister to some lucky dog, and will bring great joy to any family!

Bridget and Faith

We're Bridget and Faith, and we're sisters! (Can't you tell?) When we were just puppies we were adopted by two sisters who lived in the same house, so we've been together for all of our six years. One of our moms died, and the other one had to move in with a granddaughter, so we're now looking for another home. We adore each other, and we know it would be horrible if we couldn't live with each other the rest of our lives. We are both house and crate trained, and very easy on the leash. We have lived our entire lives with these sweet women, and it breaks our hearts to not be with them any longer. But as long as we are together, we'll be OK. We just hope there is a family out there who knows how important it is to keep two sisters together. We are attached at the heart, and we promise we'll touch yours, too.

Bruzer - I'm new

Hi! I'm Bruzer, and I was born on Christmas day, along with my four siblings, CC, Indy,Trucker and Dozer. Our foster mom has taken such good care of us, but now it's time for us to find our own homes. We are boxer/lab mixes, and our sweet, beautiful mom is Stoli. She's also looking for a new home! My name may make me sound like a tough guy, but my little heart will be bruised if you don't bring me home with you!

Buster

I'm Buster, and you wouldn't believe what I looked like when I was rescued. I had never been let out of my crate, so I was not only undernourished, but my muscle tone was almost non-existent. But my wonderful rescue-mom taught me how to run and play - and eat! Look at me now; I am one healthy, handsome four-year-old. I love to run on the beach, and I walk quite well on a harness (which I prefer to a collar and leash). I don't mind being in a crate now, because I know I'm not stuck in there forever. Because of the lousy way I was brought up (pre-rescue), I don't know how to get along really well with other dogs just yet. So at least at first, I should be the only dog in the family (which suits me just fine!). I'm a big, gregarious, loving boxer who just wants my own family to love and play with.

Cecil

I'm a happy-go-lucky guy named Cecil, and you'll rarely find me in poor humor. I admit I'm not crazy about bad weather or loud noises, but really, who is? I'm six years old, rather handsome and very interested in everyone and every thing around me. I'm a sweet boy that likes other dogs, and I do love my playtime! I've got the whole crate and house training thing figured out, and I'm very healthy. I will confess to being pretty down occasionally about not having my own home, but I'm counting on you to make that situation a thing of the past! So please fill out an application - I can't wait to meet you!

Cinnamon

Sugar and spice and everything nice -- that's me! I'm Cinnamon, and I'm a pretty boxer between two and three years old. A while back I was found as a stray after I had given birth to 14 puppies. That's right - 14! Luckily they were all adopted, and now I'd like to find my own home, too. I'm very playful - I love my squeaky toys and running around the backyard like a bunny rabbit! But I also adore being a lap dog and curling up on the couch. I like most other dogs, especially if they are about my size. I'm house trained, well behaved and healthy - what more could you ask for? Please think about adopting me; I promise to add a bit of spice to your life!

Daisy-Dingo

ey, everyone - take a look at my cool ears! No wonder they call me Daisy Dingo! (The better to hear you, my dear...) I'm a young, petite boxer, and I still have my natural tail. I'm a pretty little girl, wouldn't you agree? I'm also shy, so sometimes it has taken me a while to warm up to other dogs. But I'm living with a couple of great dogs right now, and I'm really beginning to have fun! I love to run around the backyard with my buddies. So I would very much like to go to a home with another dog, and if you have a big yard, all the better. One thing I've learned - I do not like cats - not a one. Oh - and vacuum cleaners. Yikes. Did I tell you I'm crate trained? I hear that's a good thing. Plus, I'm learning that a leash means walking - and I like that! My foster family says that I'm very sweet and affectionate, and will make someone the perfect pet. Please give me a try

Daisy Mae

Hi Houston boxer lovers! My name is Daisy Mae, and I live in Denton right now. You'll see a big smile on my face because I am so grateful to be alive! Do you have a minute? Let me tell you my story: When I was just 14 weeks old, I accidentally inhaled an acorn, and this sent me into severe respiratory distress. My owners and the vet had no idea what had happened, and they tried everything they could to make me better, but nothing was working. My family had spent all the money they could and were faced with making a decision to put me down. A rescue group took me under their wings and sent me to a specialist who figured out what happened. As they were removing the acorn via a bronchoscopy, my heart stopped. Yikes! As a result, I suffered brain damage. For a while I was unable to see, hear, stand, move or walk. A neurologist was not optimistic about my recovery. But the rescue group would not give up, and worked with me for months. Slowly I was able to stand, walk, hear, see - and even wag my tail, which I do as much as I can! I'm still a little shaky on my feet, but my guardian angels tell me I am the sweetest dog ever. I love everyone I meet and I do really well with children. As you can see, I need a very special family who will love me for just being me. I may never be a rocket scientist, but you will not find another dog with more love in her heart.

Flossy

Doesn't the name Flossy just bring a smile to your face? Well, it's not just my name that will make you happy -- I can brighten up anyone's day! I'm five years old, and if there is anything I like to do more than eat, it's to be loved on. In fact, I could be content to sit by someone all day long and just snuggle. I'm a really calm girl, and very gentle. I play well with dogs and cats, but I do enjoy a good chase if the cat runs away from me. (Well, can you blame me?) I'm house and crate trained, and I'm recovering very nicely from an earlier bout with sarcoptic mange. So I'm happy, healthy and ready to meet you! Please don't wait too long; I am so eager to find my new home.

Freda

My name is Freda, and I am a beautiful flashy brindle female. Now, if you suddenly find yourself singing "Band of Gold" (by Freda Payne, of course!) when you look at me, then you might as well admit that you are dating yourself big time! As for me, I am only three and a half years old and a super sweet girl. I'm house and crate trained, and I really enjoy being around other dogs. Sometimes, when I'm feeling a bit like a diva, I get just a little jealous of some dogs when I think they are getting more attention than I think they deserve. But most of the time we just chill together and have lots of fun. In fact, if my new family has a dog, that would be really great! And I probably would do best going to live with someone who has had experience with dogs. So please give me a chance - it would be so nice to come home with you.

Gabby

Say "hi" to Gabby - that's me! I was living in a BBQ restaurant's parking lot on a busy six-lane highway with my three puppies! The nice customers at the restaurant fed me a lot, which kept us from starving, but I'm really hungry for my own home. Luckily, my pups were taken care of by another rescue group. A nice volunteer with LSBR took me in and gave me shelter. I like other dogs, and I have lots of energy, plus I'm housebroken and crate trained. You don't have to feed me restaraunt meals; I just want two hots and cot! Well, maybe a soft bed. And some toys. And lots and lots of TLC!

Gunner - Video update

Gunner is a striking flashy fawn male that is about five years old. He is a wonderful, sweet dog who suffers from separation anxiety, and he will need an experienced owner who is willing to work with him through this issue. Gunner is crate trained, but he can become so anxious that he will break out of a crate if left alone. He has definite requirements for his canine companions and tends to pick and choose his friends. He is healthy, smaller boxer who desperately wants to find a family who will love him and give him a safe home.

Hondo

Hey there, y'all - I'm Hondo, and if I pull a few heartstrings with my story, well, I've had a bit of a tough life. I was abandoned at an early age, and found myself at the city pound. I was so scared and lonely. I was rescued by LSBR, and they were so good to me, but I was still frightened. Sometimes I need a little more time to get to know people and learn to trust them. But I'm doing so much better now. I'm working with a trainer, and whoever adopts me can continue working with my trainer. In fact, the adoption fee will go toward my training! So let me tell you about myself: I'm a really mellow guy between four and five years old. I'm big and muscular and handsome, and I really would love to be with someone who is strong and can be the leader of my "pack." Someone who will understand that it takes some dogs a little longer to feel settled. I've got all the good things going for me: I'm crate trained and house trained, I love walks, and I do like my playtime! Now here are a few things I'm not crazy about: cars, cats and some male dogs. If you're an experienced dog owner, then I'm going to make you the most awesome pet. I don't know how else to convince you; I guess you're just going to have to meet me and see for yourself. So please contact belleboxer@houston.rr.com and let her know you're interested in Hondo. You won't be sorry, and I'll be the happiest dog ever!

Jake's my name, and spreading love around is my game! I'm looking for love and happiness in any place I can! I've had a bit of a rough time lately, and all I want to do is settle down and find some peace with my new family. I'm seven years old, and I get along with all animals (including cats and chickens!) - wouldn't I be perfect on a farm? I adore riding in a car, and if you roll down the window just a bit - all the better! I'm house and crate trained, great with kids and well behaved... I just have this thing for climbing fences. But I was always trying to escape a terrible situation, so I'm sure I can unlearn that bad habit. Please give me a chance - once you hear my story you won't want to leave me behind.

Jill - Video update

I'm Jill, or Silly Jilly as my foster mom likes to call me. I'm always up to something, and apparently she thinks I'm pretty funny. I'm a two-year-old petite girl that prefers the "natural" look; I love my long, beautiful tail! And I get such a kick out of wagging it! My foster mom has been working with me, and now I'm crate and house trained (gotta love those doggie doors!). I have so much fun playing with my foster brothers and sisters, and I will do just about anything for a treat. One of my most favorite things to do is to go outside, grab a fallen branch off the ground, pull the leaves off and then settle down for a nice chewing session. I'm just a happy girl that loves to give sweet kisses and get lots of hugs in return. The only thing that would make my life more complete is to have my own family and my own home. Now that's not just a silly wish, is it?

Kira (Shakira)

My name is Kira, and I'm actually an American Bulldog. I know - when you think of bulldogs, you think of my cute, squatty English cousins, but the American breed is much taller and more agile. And typical of my breed (and just like boxers), I adore people! I love playing with other dogs, too, but keep those cats away from me, please. I'm just a year old, and at a healthy 72 pounds, I am full of energy. I'm already crate and house trained, and my foster mom thinks I'm an absolute sweetheart. She also thinks I've been sneaking in and using her eyeliner, but I promise I haven't - I'm just a natural beauty! If you and your family are active and are looking for a dog to love, please think of me when you fill out your application. You won't find a more wonderful family pet!

I'm doing really well with my crate and house training, and I'm thinking that pretty soon I'm going to figure out how to work that climbing wall in the back yard. It looks like fun! Layla's Puppies - We're new!

Hi everyone! My name is Layla, but when I was in the LSBR program I was known as Charity. I was adopted by a wonderful family, but I've given them (and myself) quite a surprise: five puppies! Don't ask. The important thing is I have three beautiful girls and two handsome boys that are going to need homes in a few weeks. They have barely opened their eyes, but you know babies - they sure know how to find the groceries! My name is Leonidas, which I think is pretty awesome! Leonidas was a king of the Spartans (did you see the film "300"?), and I'm pretty sure no one called him Leo, but you can call me that if you want. I'm a typical eight-month-old boxer that has lots of energy. But sometimes, when I get tired of running around, all I really want is for someone to pick me up and hold me. My foster mom thinks I'm too big to put in her purse, but I've seen some of those bags people carry around, so I think there may be a way... I love to play fetch and have my back rubbed, and I will do anything for crackers! I adore kids, but right now I play pretty hard, so it might be best to go to a family with children over the age of six. Oh! And I love other dogs, too! I'm house and crate trained, and I'm working on my leash training (like I said, why walk when you can be carried and snuggled at the same time!). I promise if you'll adopt me, I will not make you carry me from room to room, but I wouldn't mind a snuggle now and then!

Lyrical - I'm new

I'm a beautiful girl named Lyrical, and just like my name would suggest, I am very expressive. Just look at all the emotions on my face: thoughtful, happy... well, I'm both of those a lot! Sometimes I move so gracefully, just like the lyrics of a beautiful song; then before you know it, I'm Ms. Diva, strutting my stuff in my LSBR jacket just like Posh Spice! I'm about one and one-half years old, and I'm a real girly-girl: funny, feminine and classy. I love hanging out with my human friends, and although I've handled myself pretty well around some other dogs, sometimes I just need to take time to make friends with them. I don't care about taking time to make friends with cats - I already know I don't like them, so don't even bother! I am such a sweet girl, and I have tons of energy, but I'll tell you a secret -- I've had a pretty tough life. I'm only two years old, but my entire life has been spent as a breeder dog. I was able to escape the life I was leading, but I ended up on the streets. After I was taken to a local shelter, LSBR came to my rescue - literally. I have made up for lost time playing with other dogs and eating to my heart's (and stomach's) content. I'm going to make the best pet - I'm house and crate trained, and I adore people - plus I have discovered that I love kids! Nelson

I'm a cute flashy fawn male named Nelson. I can't remember exactly when my birthday is, but I'm around two to three years old. I've spent some of my life on the streets, and I am so happy to be living in a foster home where they are taking such good care of me. I get along well with smaller dogs, and I'm pretty tolerant of cats. I am still recovering a bit from being on my own; I've got some separation anxiety that I'm trying to work through, and being in a crate scares me a little. (So do storms...hmm, I wonder if I could convince my new family to move to the desert). I'm very protective of my foster family (dogs and cat included!). My foster mom calls me a "goofball" because I love to play! I could play all day long! I'm working hard on all of my training, and I hope my new family will be willing to keep working with me. As much as I love my foster family, I think I'm ready to find a home of my own.

My name is Pacey, and I am really sad to be looking for a new home after being raised by my family. They just can't keep a dog any longer. I know they love me, but I sure am going to miss them, especially their little girl. We were great playmates. I tend to like people better than other dogs, and I've never been around cats... so I'll probably be happiest as the only pet. So on with my sales pitch: I am three and one-half years old, house trained, and crate trained, too, although there are many places I prefer over the crate (like being curled up on a couch!). I love playing outdoors, whether it's chasing my squirrel buddies or throwing balls around. I like all balls, but my favorite is my "Jolly Ball," which I will play with for hours on end! I really like hanging out with my human friends and running around with them outside or snuggling on the couch. I am a complete sucker for treats - I will do just about anything you ask in exchange for a "cookie"! If you are looking for a sweet, handsome guy that will give you his undying love, please think about me. I'll be the best Valentine you ever had!

Pooch

My name is Pooch, and I am a very sweet, seven-month-old white male. I was sort of named after the movie star dog, "Hooch," but I like to think that I don't slobber quite as much as he did! I love to play, especially with my toys, and I'm pretty interested, in a calm sort of way, in other dogs. Particularly the girls! (But don't worry - I've been neutered!) I do well in my crate (right now I kind of like it when people give me a treat to go in!). II'm pretty good with cats while on my leash, and I hope to continue to make progress to even being friends with them off leash. I really like to ride in the car and go for walks, and I love just to be touched by anyone. I will do best in a home with adults or adults and teenagers. If you will just give me a chance, I know I will be a wonderful addition to your family.

My name is Rogan, and I'm going to tell you up front that I'm looking for a little love. I'm a handsome guy, and I do try to be happy most of the time, but I'm pretty sad that I have found myself without a family. I also need to tell you that I'm deaf. But that doesn't bother me, so I hope it won't make any difference to you, either. We can still communicate in other ways, especially through hugs and kisses! I'm house trained, and I'm not crazy about being in a crate. I just completed my heartworm treatment, so I'm in good shape! My one bad habit is to try to climb fences, and I'm learning that isn't a socially acceptable thing to do. I would love to go to a home with another dog, preferably a female. I think it would make me feel less anxious to have a canine friend, in addition to my human family. I hope I look like a good fit for your family - I really, really just want to go home.

Saxon is a wonderful three-year-old male boxer who is also quite handsome. He seems to do well with most dogs, but he might prefer being the only dog in the home. He definitely should go to a home with older children. He is crate trained and house trained, and has a clean bill of health. This sweet boy would be so happy to find a loving family he can call his own.

Scooter

Hi y'all - I'm Scooter! I think I was named that 'cause I have so much energy I just "scoot" all over the place! I'm a pretty handsome guy that snorts when I get excited, and I'm always excited when I get to be around my human friends. I'm really friendly and outgoing with people, but I just haven't spent that much time around other dogs, so I tend to be a bit picky about my canine friends. I was abandoned at an early age, and then was taken in by someone who kept me tied to a tree 24/7 and never took proper care of me. So I'm a little behind in learning some stuff that dogs ought to know. I hope I'm not asking for too much, but I really hope to find a family that will not just show me what love is, but will also work with me to help me be the best boxer ever! Just scoot on over and meet me sometime...soon!

Sir Patches - I'm new

My name is Sir Patches, and my brother, AJ, and I were rescued together. I don't care what AJ says, I think I'm the handsome one with the cool brown patches on my face and tail. We are both big, strong boys that are about 18 months old. We have natural tails and ears, and we are both super sweet guys. We're staying at a really nice boarding facility, and they are working with us on our house training and leash skills. We're both doing really well. One thing about me: I love to hug and kiss! So now we are looking for our forever homes, and we both hope that the other finds some place really wonderful. I'll miss AJ, but we know that we need to find our own way in this big world. So if you are looking for strong, handsome and lovable, well, yes sir, I'm your guy!

Smooch

Hi! I was named Smooch because I just love to give hugs and kisses. My vet seems to think I am about four years old, but I feel like a puppy and I am always ready to play, run, and jump. When I was rescued, I was homeless and a very sad girl, but now I am at my foster dad's home where I am having a great time! I have a wonderful personality and love to play with all kinds of toys. My cute little under-bite makes me look sad sometimes, but I promise you I have a big smile inside all the time because I just love everybody! I am not too sure if I like other dogs or cats yet - I'm more of a people dog. I am house trained and crate trained. I am a really fast runner and I can jump really high - maybe one day I can learn to catch a frisbee. I am very good inside; so far I have been living in my foster dad~Rs apartment with no problems the only things I chew on are my toys. I am really looking forward to a place I can call my very own "forever" home - and a family who will love my kisses.

Stoli

Hi! I'm Stoli. As you might have already heard, I received five of the most beautiful gifts on Christmas day: my five puppies - CC, Indy, Bruzer, Dozer and Trucker. They are growing up so fast, and now it's time for all of us to find our new homes. I am a pretty three year old, and my foster mom calls me her "horse dog" because I can fall asleep standing up! I'm very sweet and laid back, and I love giving hugs to my human buddies. My foster brother and sister and I get along really well, but I just don't like cats. Other than that, I am a complete love! Plus, I am well behaved in the house. I know puppies are adorable, and I hope my babies find the best homes as soon as possible. But I'll bet some of you could use a little Stoli in your life!

Sweet Jessie

My name is Jessie, and I'm a super sweet, ten-month-old pit bull mix. I was found as a stray and taken to the Texas A&M vet school by a good samaritan because I had some skin problems, but they could not pay for my treatment. The vet school treated me and tried to find me a permanent home, but couldn~Rt. They were going to take me to the Brazos County Animal Shelter, which immediately euthanizes all pit mixes, but fortunately LSBR took me in! Please don't believe the bad press - I am a wonderful, gentle dog. I love other dogs, cats, and children. I am house and crate trained, and I love to ride in cars, snuggle, and play with the other dogs and my tennis ball in my foster home. You won't meet a sweeter dog, I promise! Please give me a chance to live the kind of life I deserve.

Trucker - I'm new

Hi! I'm Trucker, and I was born on Christmas day, along with my four siblings, CC, Indy, Dozer and Bruzer. Our foster mom has taken such good care of us, but now it's time for us to find our own homes. We are boxer/lab mixes, and our sweet, beautiful mom is Stoli. She's also looking for a new home! Not to start a little sibling rivalry, but I think I'm a pretty cute guy, so if you have to choose, I'm ready to truck on over!

Tulip

I'm as pretty as a flower, and that's why I was named Tulip. Have you ever really thought about how perfect white flowers are? Well, "perfect" comes pretty close to describing me. I'm a two-year-old female, and if I look a little less than perfect in a couple of my pictures, it's only because I had sarcoptic mange when I was rescued by LSBR. But that's all gone now, and my pretty white coat is beginning to fill in. I get along with most dogs and cats, but I'd prefer being the only dog in the family. I'm already crate and house trained, I'm healthy and playful - what more could you ask for? A beautiful white Tulip will make any house (and family) even better.

Tupelo

My foster mom named me Tupelo, so either she thinks I'm as sweet as honey, or she is a real Elvis fan. (Did you know that Elvis was born in Tupelo, Mississippi?) I love the Van Morrison song, so I'm voting for the honey version! You might have noticed that I'm a big ham in front of a camera. I'm a pretty cool guy - I might be an American Bulldog or a boxer mix - not too sure about all that yet. What I am sure about is that I'm around one and one-half years old, very handsome and sweet. I get along with other dogs and I love my foster mom. Two more good things: I'm house and crate trained! So please fill out an application and come meet me. I promise I'll be a honey of a pet!

Willie

Hi, my name is Willie, like the legendary Willie Nelson. Not long ago, I was standing in the middle of a busy street not knowing where I was or what to do. I was so scared. I tried repeatedly to get into a truck with a man that worked for Centerpoint Energy but he was working and already had several dogs of his own. A lady came out of her house and looked angry at me. I was scared that she was going to call animal control to take me away.

Zoe - Video update

Zoe is a vivacious five- to six-year-old female that is as pretty as she is sweet. She is healthy, crate trained and housebroken. Zoe is generally very gentle, and is quite good with children, but she can be a bit testy with other dogs if she suspects they are stealing the limelight from her. If you and your family are looking for a wonderful boxer that will adore being the center of attention, Zoe is your girl!
