Lone Star Boxer Rescue is the Houston Chapter of Austin Boxer Rescue, a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization dedicated to the health and well-being of the boxer breed. LSBR/ABR is run and managed 100% by volunteers since 1999. Our main objective is to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home boxers that come to us from many sources including local animal shelters, owner surrenders, and strays. Please consider making a tax deductible donation to allow us to save more dogs in need throughout the state of Texas.

My name is Gem and that's because I'm a little gem as well as a little miracle!   I am about a year old and, as you can see, I've had a very rough start to life.  I'm undersized for my age right now and I'm being treated for demodex.  Despite all that, my foster Dad says that I'm a lover and now that I'm under the care of the nice people at LSBR, I'm well on my way to recovery and hopefully a wonderful life!

My foster Dad says that I astonish him daily with my gentle, inquisitive nature.  Everything is so new to me....you see, I was rescued from a puppy mill so I've never known the love and comfort of a nice home.  He also says that I'm adapting well to other dogs and I even try to snuggle with his cat!    I like to be where people are and I really, really like to be held.  I'll even fall asleep in your lap if you let me. I'm not sure what children are yet but I'm sure I'll like them just fine too.  Although I'm not completely house broken yet, I give everyone a short bark to let them know I need to go out.

Update, update! Guess what! I can walk a little better now – I am so excited! Every little thing I can do is like a giant accomplishment for me!! Plus, I made it up the stairs all by myself with a little coaxing from my family. And, I am responding to my beautiful name and learning hand signals. I feel so, so smart!

My foster parents are working with me on so many things.......they are teaching me all the good things that a loving family will want in a young dog. But the main thing they are giving me is lots of TLC! I have never known such love. I know I still have a little way to go but I also know deep down in my heart that I'll make someone a gem of a pet. Life is so good!
