Lone Star Boxer Rescue is the Houston Chapter of Austin Boxer Rescue, a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization dedicated to the health and well-being of the boxer breed. LSBR/ABR is run and managed 100% by volunteers since 1999. Our main objective is to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home boxers that come to us from many sources including local animal shelters, owner surrenders, and strays. Please consider making a tax deductible donation to allow us to save more dogs in need throughout the state of Texas.

Learn more about the Boxer.

Walter is a super puppy! The vet estimates him to be about 5 months old and in excellent shape. He's still losing puppy teeth, has puppy claws and smells like a puppy! He loves to run, jump and chew on his favorite toy. Despite being nearly 30 pounds, he sometimes thinks he's a lap dog. He isn't too sure about cats (sometimes he growls and barks), but has had fun playing with two small dogs. He hasn't had any experience with children yet. Sometimes he is a little clumsy and uncoordinated, but he's working really hard on being obedient. He's very alert and interested in all sorts of things. After living life on the streets for at least a few weeks, he is adjusting well to being an indoor dog. He's a little suspicious of the crate, but if a treat is involved, he's sure to go in! The dog he lives with right now is a little jealous, so he has to stay in his crate at night. Sometimes he gets very sad, but if he can see someone, that helps quite a bit. He's learning how to walk on a leash, and is pretty good about not pulling. He isn't too keen on riding in the car, probably because he gets a little car sick, especially on longer trips. We're trying out some medicine that might help him with his upset tummy so that he can enjoy traveling more. He's working on housetraining - so far, he hasn't figured out ringing the bell on the door, but it's pretty obvious that he needs a potty break when he starts sniffing around. With a little love, patience and training, he is sure to grow into a wonderful companion!
