I am with my new family now. They came to Lone Star Boxer Rescue to be rescued from the loss of their beloved Boxer Tug. I came in with lots of energy and lots of love in the form of kisses. It was a little strange at first, they had a lot of rules to abide by, but after a while I became comfortable with them and them with me. Now it’s jogging, walking, playing….oh and more learning. I also try to help around the house, by grabbing clothes to put them way….I just don’t know where they belong. In the evening when we’re relaxing, I also act as a pillow. I love the closeness, I’m loved by all of them.

That lion looking animal is Emily. When we first met we didn’t really see much of each other, because when we were together, I barked at her and she hissed at me. I wondered how long it would be before she moved out. As time went on it appeared she wasn’t going anywhere and neither was I, so we had to learn to get along. I understand she was best friends with the previous dog that was here, so she couldn’t be all bad. My family took the time to bring us together gradually at first and then extending our time together under their watchful eye. After about 5 weeks, we seemed to have forgotten what all that barking and hissing was about. She chases me and I chase her, she’s actually quite fun. And don’t let that lion appearance fool you, she’s really just a pussycat.

There are a couple of birds in my home that are locked in their crate all day long. Since they don’t come out, I tend to forget about them, until they start making a lot of noise and I do as everyone else and tune them out!

Some people think because I’m part Pit Bull I may be dangerous, but I’m also part Boxer too, which are friendly and loyal. My new family thinks there is no such thing as bad dogs, only bad dog owners. They enjoy teaching me and I love to learn. They say I’m doing great! This is truly my forever home.

Summer has arrived and so have the "Junebugs." The dogs have gotten a kick out of chasing them around the backyard in the evenings. As the bug flies into the wall so does the dog. It is about time to get more sand for the sandbox it is running on empty. I think most of it has been deposited in the house or been sprayed through the fence into the driveway. The dogs seem to have really enjoyed it and are constantly covered in sand. We tried getting the dogs a small plastic pool to lay in when it gets hot outside. Dash took the approach that it was a giant water bowl that you could stand in; he didn't like sitting in it. Harley would not enter the pool but enjoyed trying to run past it without us splashing her. We are gradually trying to introduce the outside cat to the dogs and vice versa. The cat likes to sleep on the porch and the dogs like to try to chase her whenever we go on a walk. This whole process has resulted in several broken flower pots and numerous dead flowers. During the course of Bill's first year of school and me still working night shift we have acclimated the dogs to being in the house for several hours by themselves without having any accidents or tearing anything up. We have even taken the doors off of their crates so they can sleep in there whenever they like. We can tell when the dogs have been horsing around when we are gone because the rug at the front door is usually crumpled up against the door making it hard to open. Renee, Bill, Dash & Harley

I had my Boxer for at least eleven years. As most people that have had a Boxer in their lives, you really fall in love with the breed. Boozer was a loving member of my family and was loved by all. When he died, it took a lot out of me and it took a couple of years before I even entertained the thought of bringing another dog into my life. When I finally started thinking about a dog I went back to thinking about Boxers. I found Lone Star Boxer Rescue on the web and started checking them out. I checked out a couple of the young Boxers and and started the process of adopting them but both times it was too late, they had already been adopted. Then I saw a picture of Chopper..... his name was Tiger at the time because he is a brindle and a Boxer/Mastiff mix. He had been through a really rough streatch and he was stand offish but I still fell in love with him. Long story short.....I was approved to adopt him and he is a very big part of my life, I am a retired disabled Viet Nam Marine Vet and he has become my close friend and he knows I love him very much. We walk, talk, and he gets spoiled and in return he shows his loyalty and love to me and my family.

FROGG (now Dozer)
FROGG (now Dozer)

Hi! We just wanted to take a moment (okay, it’s almost been a year) to thank Lonestar for adding to our family.

We met Frogg at a meet&greet at PetSmart right after Hurricane Ike. When we got down to the floor to say hello, he jumped and started nibbling on our ear lobes – and we decided we were taking him home right there. As we filled out the form for Frogg, we were corrected on his name. Brett and Joyce and their daughters (an amazing foster family) told us his name was Dozer. He could not have a more appropriate name- he just dozes his way to get where he wants.

Dozer took very well to his new older brother, Buddy and his older sister, Sissy. Dozer’s foster family did an awesome job preparing him for his forever home. We could not believe how well-trained and well-mannered he wa.. and even though we relocated- he took to the move like a trooper.

Dozer has grown into a handsome pup- and he’s still growing. He can be rough and tumble one minute and quiet companion the next. And does that pup love the sun! He would sit on the stairs enjoying the sun all day if it weren’t for distractions like his family, treats and chewing on his toys. I could go on and on about Dozer and how much he’s brought to our lives and how great it’s been for Buddy and Sissy. All I can say is thank you.

Matt, Wil, Buddy, Sissy & Dozer.
