Hey – did anybody get the license number of that car that hit me? I swear I never even saw it coming. I guess I shouldn’t have been out in the street – but I still think that was just RUDE! My back leg hurt very badly for a while and it didn’t work right at all. It actually really got in the way so I guess it’s not THAT bad that someone had to take it off. I started feeling better pretty soon.

I went to stay with this really nice lady after my surgery, but then one evening a different lady came to her house and took me with her. That made me kind of nervous but there were fewer dogs at the new house so I didn’t get knocked over as much. I was still learning to balance myself on three legs, instead of four. Whew! And forget backing up – that’s just not happening anymore. I like the other dogs here and I really like the food. But where I sleep at night is the greatest! I am very polite about it. All I do is go stand by the side of the bed when the lady is in it, and she will come and pick me up, put me in it and let me sleep there all night. The man always says “Spoiled” to me when he sees me there. I don’t know what that means but it must be good!

I run really fast now and I am hardly bothered by my missing leg. My new Mom says I am the prettiest girl she has ever seen. I have been eating really well and I feel very strong and fit. I play with my brothers and sister love the attention we get when the people come home. I’ve never had my very own room with a door to the outside so I think that’s pretty cool. Whenever I feel like it, I can go outside and then come back in if I get hot or tired. My sister is VERY funny. She does the strangest things! When these little sticks pop up out of the ground and spray water out all over of the place, she runs around and does her best to “catch” that water in her mouth. I keep trying to tell her she will never win but she just loves the chase. The only time I get irritated is when she decides the water dish is a predator, and drags it out in the yard to attack it. Luckily the people here caught on to her and keep plenty of extra bowls out.

I am really very happy now and I understand what it is to be safe, full, happy and loved. I sure wish I could say thank you to the wonderful people that made it possible for me to have this wonderful forever home. If you see them, could you tell them for me? And tell them that the best part is that I have people who ALWAYS scratch that itch on the side of my neck that I can’t get to anymore. All I do is go sit in front of them and give them my best “Look deeply into my eyes” look and they just start scratching it. People can be so cool sometimes!

Whew - talk about being scared! I was so lost and lonely. No one knows how I got away from my family. I had been hurt and I had nowhere to go. The next thing I knew I was put in the back of a truck and taken to the nicest lady I ever met. She took me in and nursed me back to health. I had a bunch of other dogs to play with, lots of love and good food to eat. Then one day she brought me outside by myself and I found a family out there to meet me. And they had dogs with them, too. It made me kind of nervous but they seemed fun enough. I was kind of surprised when my leash was handed to the new people – was I going somewhere?

Sure enough, they walked me to a car and we ALL got in and drove away. I sat with the lady who pet my head and talked to me the whole time. I guess I looked scared! When we went into the house I got REALLY nervous! Where was it ok for me to sit and where was it NOT ok for me to sit. Oh boy! In a couple of hours I relaxed a little bit and sat down. Then they showed me a bed for me to sleep on in the living room. I was so excited that I ran around and around on it and punched it in the middle with my head. Man, is it comfortable!

I’ve been in my forever home for about eight months now. Every morning and every evening they give me my very own bowl of food. I was sure they would forget but they never have. And every day I can go outside whenever I want to check out the new smells that pop up. I love my two brothers (well, the little one can be cranky). And the yard has these magic sticks that pop up out of the ground for no reason and spray water! I have to be very diligent and watch for them so I don’t miss anything. Sometimes other dogs come to stay here for a little while and then they go away. I am not sure what that’s about but I don’t mind. It gives me someone else to play with. A few months ago one came to stay and it sure doesn’t look like she is leaving, so I guess now I have a sister too! We have so much fun together running and wrestling. Don’t tell her this – but I take it a little easy on her because she only has three legs. Even though she has one less leg, she runs faster than any of the rest of us.

Sometimes I can barely remember how hungry, tired and scared I was when I was picked up and put in that truck. I sure am glad that there are nice people out there that do that, because I like feeling safe, warm, loved and cared for. If I could, I would tell them how happy I am and say a big THANK YOU!!

SISSY (now Chloe)
SISSY (now Chloe)

We are pleased with our new family member, Chloe, aka Sissy. We got her last March. We already have a schnauzer, Felix, who she gets along with but it was not that way in the beginning! Chloe is a little dominant. I had to nip that in the bud and take her to training at Petsmart and use some Cesar Milan techniques. She is now a good girl and knows her place. She is such a love bug and great with my 6 year old son. She just gives everyone kisses all the time. She also follows me around everywhere through the house. She makes us laugh a lot with all her shenanigans. It was a learning curve in the beginning with Chloe. She has such a high prey drive. She totally pulled a possum through the fence twice from our trashy neighbors yard. I can't believe how strong she is! The neighbors yard is so messy that they are harboring animals. I think she has scared off all the little critters hanging around by now! She also loves Balls! Once she saw some boys playing basketball and ran over to join them. I tell you I think she could make a basket. She can jump so high! We are so lucky to have her and love her a lot. Thank you so much for helping find the right dog for us!

Cloud
Cloud

Hello all! The day after Valentine's Day, Matt and I went to a Lone Star Boxer Rescue meet and greet intending to take home our very own boxer. We ended up coming home with a 75 pound American Bulldog (maybe a bull/box mix, we have no idea). Cloud is almost 2 years old (and fully grown, we hope). He has a slight neurological disorder that causes him to drag his front feet and be wobbly, making him like an overgrown puppy. He seems to know his strength because he is very gentle, even with crazy Mira. While he looks fairly intimidating, he's a complete goofball and so loving. Cloud has already stolen our hearts. Truly, Beth Petrusek

Miles
Miles

Hi Debbie, I hope that you are doing well and had a good holiday season. It's been a while since I sent you an update about Miles and how he's doing, so I wanted to drop you a line. Miles has settled in very well and really is as close of a perfect fit with us as they come :) A while back we got a dog door which he mastered in a couple days and he uses that when we are gone during the day. We don't crate him, but he keeps to the first floor during until we get home. Miles now has more beds around the house than we do! He has a nice dog bed on each floor (3) and then an additional comfy mat in the cabin/dog house that we put outside for him. Some of his favorite things to do include chewing his bone, laying in the sun on our balcony while Luis and I are out there reading, greeting the other dogs in our neighborhood on our walks and of course being petted. He doesn't bark at all, but when he's excited he will give us a bit of the boxer howl, which is hilarious. These days we see lots of tail wagging and he is excited to see the dogs he knows around the neighborhood which is great. He is definately more interested in human affection than other dogs though, so I think he enjoys having Luis and me to himself! Miles doesn't leave my side, he follows me pretty much everywhere, so as you mentioned I've grown accustomed to having a boxer shadow me around the house :) He has a fan club whereever he goes because he is so calm and the long tongue amazes everyone. He's been really great and we've hardly ever had any problems since that first week when he was just scared and didn't know what was going on. I hope things are going well for you. Thank you for letting us give Miles a good home. He brings a lot of happiness to our household and he really is a perfect dog. Happy Valentine's Day. Leah
